Hydroxychloroquine sulfate.
Systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, Sjogren syndrome, autoimmune disease.
Adult: 1-2 times daily. Children: 1 tab is not suitable for children weighing less than 31 kg. Maximum dose: 6.5 mg/kg daily based on ideal body weight. Take with food.
Hypersensitivity to 4-aminoquinoline compound. Contraindicated in eye maculopathy and children <6 yr (<31 kg).
Eye exam related to the risk of retinopathy before treatment & after 5 years of treatment, repeated every 12 month. Stricter eye exam are recommended at daily doses exceeding the normal dose. Low visual acuity. Impaired renal function. Elderly.
Retinopathy, hypoglycemia, allergic reaction, skin rash, pruritus, nausea, diarrhea, anorexia, skeletal muscle myopathy or neuropathy.
May increase serum levels of digoxin. Reduction of insulin dose or antidiabetic drugs may be needed. May prolong QT interval & increase risk of ventricular arrhythmias with drugs that have the potential to induce cardiac arrhythmias eg, mefloquine. Antiepileptic drug activity may be disrupted. May increase side effects with methotrexate. Increased levels of cyclosporine.
