To control BP in acute hypotension. Adjunctive treatment for cardiac arrest & severe hypotension.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IV Add 4 mL (4 mg) amp to 1,000 mL of 5% dextrose soln. Initially 2-3 mL/min, adjust flow rate to maintain normal BP (80-100 mmHg). Maintenance dose: 0.5-1 mL/min.
Contraindications
Should not be given to potential patients & patients w/ vascular thrombosis. Patients receiving cyclopropane or halogenated hydrocarbon general anesth.
Special Precautions
Patients receiving MAOIs, triptyline or imipramine antidepressants. Avoid HTN. Should be given into a large vein. Extravasation. Carcinogenesis, mutagenesis, impaired fertility. Pregnancy & breastfeeding mothers. Should not be given into the veins of the leg in elderly. Childn. Geriatrics.
Adverse Reactions
Tissue damage due to ischemia, strong vasoconstriction & tissue hypoxia; bradycardia; anxiety; temporary headaches; difficulty breathing; necrosis.
C01CA03 - norepinephrine ; Belongs to the class of adrenergic and dopaminergic cardiac stimulants excluding glycosides. Used in the treatment of hypotension.
