Indications/Uses
Schizophrenia. Bipolar I disorder. Adjunct therapy for major depressive disorder (MDD). Irritability associated w/ autism in childn & adolescents. Tourette's disorder.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Schizophrenia Initially 10 mg daily or 15-30 mg once daily. Bipolar I disorder Initially 15-30 mg daily. Ped patient 10-17 yr Initially 2 mg daily, titrated to 5 mg daily after 2 days w/ target dose of 10 mg daily after 2 additional days. Adjunct therapy for MDD 2-5 mg daily. Irritability associated w/ autism Childn & adolescent 6-17 yr 5-15 mg daily. Initially 2 mg daily then increased to 5 mg daily. Dose can be increased to 10 mg or 15 mg daily. Dose adjustments up to 5 mg daily should be made gradually w/ at least 1 wk interval. Tourette's disorder Ped patient 6-17 yr 5-20 mg daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: OD tab: Place tab on the tongue & let it rapidly disintegrate, then swallow.
Special Precautions
Reduce dose or discontinue use if signs or symptoms of tardive dyskinesia & NMS appear. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Akathisia, sedation.
Drug Interactions
Concomitant use w/ carbamazepine, ketoconazole, quinidine, itraconazole, erythromycin, grapefruit juice, alcohol.
