Xylometazoline - Nasal

Patient Medicine Information
Why do I need this medicine?
Xylometazoline helps relieve symptoms of nasal congestion (blocked or stuffy nose) that are associated with inflamed sinuses and allergic rhinitis (an inflammation of the inside lining of the nose caused by allergens) which may be perennial (year-round).
How do I use this medicine?
Use Xylometazoline exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not use more or less than instructed by your doctor.

This medicine is available as a solution in nasal drops or as a solution in nasal spray.

If you are using the nasal drops, follow these steps:
  1. Blow your nose gently to clean your nostrils before using the drops.
  2. Tilt your head back and close one nostril with your finger. Hold the dropper straight and upright, placing the dropper tip into the other nostril.
  3. Instil the required number of drops into the nostril. Keep your head tilted for a few minutes to allow the medicine to spread into the nose.
  4. Repeat steps to instil your dose into the other nostril if necessary.
  5. After each use, wipe the dropper tip and cap the nasal drops.
If you are using the nasal spray, follow these steps:
  1. If you are using the nasal spray for the first time, remove the cap and press the pump a few times until you produce an even spray.
  2. Blow your nose gently before using the spray.
  3. With your head upright, spray the medicine into the nostril and inhale at the same time.
  4. Repeat steps to spray into the other nostril.
  5. Wipe the nozzle with a clean tissue and cap the nasal spray after using it.
Make sure you know how to use your nasal drops or spray. If you have problems or do not understand the instructions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Do not share your nasal spray or drops with others as it could spread infection.

The dose of Xylometazoline will be decided by your doctor. Your doctor will advise you on the treatment timeframe depending on your condition.
What should I do if I have forgotten to use this medicine?
Use the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.

DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.

If you often forget to use your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
