Ganciclovir
Indications/Uses
Superficial & viral corneal infections.
Dosage/Direction for Use
1 drop into the affected eye 3-5 times daily. Max duration: 21 days.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to ganciclovir or aciclovir. Men & women of childbearing potential not using contraception. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Do not swallow. Avoid touching eye or eyelids w/ dropper tip. Avoid contact w/ soft contact lenses. Remove contact lenses before administration & reinsert 15 min afterwards. Administer 15 min after another ophth medicine. Contains benzalkonium Cl, which may cause eye irritation, especially in case of dry eyes or corneal disorders. May cause temporary visual disturbances after ocular administration. Wait until normal vision is recovered before driving a vehicle or using any machine. Men should use a local method of contraception (eg, condom) during treatment & for 3 mth after the end of treatment. Not recommended in childn <18 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Transient burning or stinging sensations, eye irritation, blurred vision. Superficial punctate keratitis, conjunctival hyperaemia.
