Do not use occlusive dressing. Because melasma usually recurs upon treatment discontinuation, patients should avoid sunlight exposure, use sunscreen w/ appropriate SPF, wear protective clothing, & switch to non-hormonal forms of birth control if hormonal methods are used. Safety & efficacy have not been studied in patients w/ skin types V & VI, & in the treatment of hyperpigmentation conditions other than melasma of the face. Excessive bleaching resulting in undesirable cosmetic effect in patients w/ darker skin cannot be excluded. Safety & efficacy have not been established in pregnant women & nursing mothers.
