Rasagiline tartrate
Indications/Uses
Monotherapy or in combination w/ levodopa for the treatment of Parkinson's disease in adults.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Concomitant use w/ MAOIs, medicinal & natural products w/o prescription (eg, St. John's wort), pethidine. Patients w/ severe liver problems.
Special Precautions
Increased risk of skin cancer. Risk of impulse control disorders. May cause drowsiness. May influence ability to drive or operate machinery. Avoid use during pregnancy. No relevant use in childn & adolescents.
Adverse Reactions
Dyskinesia, headache. Abdominal pain, fall, allergy, fever, flu, malaise, neck pain, angina pectoris, orthostatic hypotension, decreased appetite, constipation, dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, flatulence, leucopenia, arthralgia, musculoskeletal pain, arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, decreased wt, abnormal dreams, balance disorder, depression, vertigo, dystonia, rhinitis, dermatitis, rash, conjunctivitis, urinary urgency.
Drug Interactions
Potential interaction w/ SSRIs, SNRIs, TCAs, tetracyclic antidepressants, ciprofloxacin, dextromethorphan, sympathomimetics (eg, those in eye drops, nasal & oral decongestants & cold medicine containing ephedrine or pseudoephedrine). Avoid concomitant use w/ fluoxetine or fluvoxamine. Decreased blood levels w/ smoking.
