Use In Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy: Data from lithium birth registries suggest an increase in cardiac and other anomalies, especially Ebstein's anomaly; nephrogenic diabetes insipidus, euthyroid goiter and hypoglycemia have occurred in infants born to women who took lithium during pregnancy. Therefore, pms-LITHIUM CARBONATE should not be used during pregnancy or in women of child-bearing potential unless it cannot be substituted by other appropriate therapy and in the opinion of the physician the expected benefits outweigh the possible hazards to the foetus.
Lactation: Lithium is excreted in human milk. Nursing should not be undertaken during pms-LITHIUM CARBONATE therapy except in rare and unusual circumstances where, in the view of the physician, the potential benefits to the mother outweigh possible hazards to the child.
