Perform blood tests to establish baseline for liver function, blood lipids, & to confirm that female patients are not pregnant. Acne may worsen during 1st use; worsening nearly always stops w/in the 1st few wk. Follow skin care advice while on treatment (do not squeeze any pimples; do not remove any scaly or peeling skin; do not have facials, waxes, electrolysis, overly hot showers; do not pierce any part of the body; do not perm hair, use hair rollers, or color hair w/ peroxide-containing dyes; do not use solariums & sunbeds). Do not donate blood until at least 4 wk after stopping treatment. Teratogenic. Women of childbearing potential must use strict birth control methods for at least 1 mth before starting treatment, during treatment, & for at least 1 mth after stopping treatment; should wait until the 2nd or 3rd day of next menstrual period before starting treatment.
