Administration
Should be taken with food: Take w/ a glass of water.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Uncontrolled HTN; severe or unstable CHD; difficulty urinating due to benign prostatic hyperplasia or other genito-urinary disorders. Concomitant use w/ irreversible MAOIs; selective MAO-B inhibitors; digitalis; sumatriptan & other drugs in the same group; adrenaline or noradrenaline inj, clonidine & similar drugs; moclobemide, toloxatone. Lactation.
Special Precautions
Risk of postpartum haemorrhage; symptoms of sexual dysfunction; suicidal thoughts & worsening of depression or anxiety disorder when starting treatment; hyponatremia. Caution in case of serotonin syndrome; insomnia or nervousness at the beginning of treatment; kidney failure; benign prostatic hyperplasia or difficulty urinating or other genito-urinary disorders; HTN or heart disease; vision disorders related to narrow-angle glaucoma; epilepsy or history of epilepsy; mania; jaundice. Patients w/ history of bleeding disorders. May cause dizziness, especially at the beginning of treatment. Not recommended in women of childbearing potential not using contraception & during pregnancy. Do not use in childn & adolescents <18 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, nausea. Agitation, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, sleep disorders, suicidal behaviour; migraines, tremors, dizziness, changes in sensitivity, somnolence; palpitations, tachycardia, increased BP, hot flush; abdominal pain, diarrhoea, constipation, dry mouth, indigestion, vomiting; itching, rash, excessive sweating; muscle pains; inability to urinate, pollakiuria; erectile dysfunction, ejaculation disorders, testicular pain; fatigue.
Drug Interactions
Do not initiate treatment in patients receiving linezolid; wait until 24 hr after linezolid last dose before starting treatment. Do not take in combination w/ irreversible MAOIs (eg, iproniazid, nialamide); selective MAO-B inhibitors (eg, selegiline); digitalis; sumatriptan & other drugs in the same group; adrenaline or noradrenaline inj, clonidine & similar drugs; linezolid, moclobemide, toloxatone, methylene blue; NSAIDs, aspirin, lithium, diuretics. Wait at least 14 days after taking MAOI before starting Milpran; wait at least 7 days after stopping Milpran before taking MAOI. Not recommended w/ alcoholic beverages or medicines containing alcohol.
