Carbomer, medium-chain triglycerides.
Liposic eye gel also contains cetrimide 0.01% w/w, sorbitol, medium-chain triglycerides, sodium hydroxide (for pH adjustment) and purified water.
Carbomer is used as a tear substitute and lubricant when applied to the eye.
Liposic eye gel is used for the symptomatic treatment of "dry eye", which is a dehydration of the surface of the eye when no natural tears are being produced. Dry eye can also be caused when it is not possible to close the eyelids either partly or completely.
This condition is so common that 1 in 5 patients who go to see an ophthalmologist suffers from a dry eye condition. There are many reasons eg, reduced tear production in old age, work in air conditioned rooms, VDU work, hormonal changes during menopause, etc. Finally, also negative environmental and climatic effects play a role in the development of dry eye conditions.
During the course of the day, we blink 14,000 times on an average. With each blinking motion of the eye, a very thin tear film is distributed over the surface of the eyeball which keeps it smooth, clean and moist, and protects the eye from pollutants. When the volume or the composition of the tear film is disturbed, dessication phenomena of the cornea and conjunctiva occur and the patient experiences symptoms eg, burning, dry eye sensation, gritty feeling, feeling of pressure and sensitivity to light.
Liposic is a soothing gel solution which moistens the eye and provides tear-like lubrication to the eyes and eyelids. The carbomer in Liposic increases the thickness of the gel which assists the gel in remaining in contact with eye for a longer period of time.
Substitute for tear fluid for use in cases of inadequate tear production and for symptomatic treatment of "dry eye" conditions.
Instil into 1 or both eye(s). Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the standard dose is 1 drop placed in the corner of the eye, nearest the nose, 3-5 times each day or as required to provide sufficient lubrication. This will depend on the severity of the symptoms.
As dry eye is a condition which varies from person to person, the drops should be used as often as necessary, to relieve dry eye(s). This may possibly be more often than the stated standard dose but this should not cause any unwanted effects.
Children: Follow the doctor's advice.
Liposic eye gel is suitable for long-term treatment, it is wise to consult the doctor if the eye condition becomes long-term or permanent.
Instructions for Use: Liposic is a liquid gel. It is easy and comfortable to use, when the instructions for instillation are followed. Due to its high viscosity; Liposic eye gel is particularly suitable for the treatment of severe dry eye symptoms. Liposic forms a protective film which keeps the surface of the eye moist for a long time. Even in severe cases, only relatively few applications (4-5/day) should be sufficient to provide relief and bring about improvement.
Liposic eye gel is very well tolerated and has a pleasantly cooling effect; it can be used more frequently, as required.
Tilt the head back and gently pull down the lower eyelid with 1 index finger. With the other hand, hold the tube in a vertical position, not touching, the eye, and instill 1 drop into the conjunctival sac. This is the part of your eye nearest the nose. Try to keep the eye open and to move it so that the gel is distributed evenly.
Note: If Liposic eye gel is used at the same time with the other eye drops/eye ointments, there should be an application time interval of approximately 5 min between use of such other medications and Liposic eye gel should always be the last medication to be applied.
If a larger dose than recommended is accidentally used, this may cause some blurring of vision, but this will soon subside.
