Why do I need this medicine?
Human papillomavirus 9-valent recombinant vaccine is used to prevent certain diseases caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) types 6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52 and 58.

This medicine helps protect individuals aged 9 to 45 years against the following diseases caused by HPV:

In girls and women:
  • cancer of the vagina, cervix (lower end of the uterus), and vulva (the outer part of the genitals)
  • abnormal growths or changes in tissue that may lead to cancer of the cervix, vagina, vulva, and anus
  • cancer of the anus, head and neck
  • genital warts
In boys and men:
  • cancer of the anus, head and neck
  • abnormal growths or changes in tissue that may lead to cancer of the anus
  • genital warts
How do I use this medicine?
Human papillomavirus 9-valent recombinant vaccine injection is to be given intramuscularly (into the muscle, usually into the muscles of the upper arm or thigh).

Your doctor or nurse will administer the injection for you.

The total number of injections you will receive will be decided by your doctor. Your doctor will advise you on the course of your vaccination depending on your age at the time of your first injection.
What should I do if I have forgotten to use this medicine?
Ensure that you keep all appointments with your doctor so that you do not miss any doses. Your doctor also needs to regularly monitor your response to Human papillomavirus 9-valent recombinant vaccine.

If you miss an appointment or miss an injection, alert your doctor or nurse. A replacement appointment or injection should be given as soon as possible.
When should I not use this medicine?
Do not use Human papillomavirus 9-valent recombinant vaccine if you ever had an allergic reaction (e.g. rashes, breathlessness, swollen eyes) to this medicine or a similar medicine called human papillomavirus (type 6, 11, 16, 18) recombinant vaccine.
What should I take note of while using this medicine?
Inform your doctor if you have the following conditions:
  • bleeding disorder
  • condition causing a weak immune system e.g. HIV infection
Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

If you become pregnant or plan to get pregnant during the course of vaccination, your doctor may advise interrupting or postponing the vaccination until you are no longer pregnant.

Human papillomavirus 9-valent recombinant vaccine will not protect you against every type of HPV. Ensure that you continue to use appropriate precautions against sexually transmitted diseases.

Keep your appointments with your doctor. Your doctor needs to monitor your condition regularly.

Women should continue to undergo routine screening tests (e.g. cervical cancer screening) as recommended by the doctor.
What side effects could I experience?
Human papillomavirus 9-valent recombinant vaccine may cause any of the following side effects: headache, dizziness, nausea, diarrhoea, tiredness, fever, muscle pain, and pain, redness, swelling, bruising, and itching at the injection site.

Brief fainting spells that may result in falling and injury may occur after vaccination. Sitting or lying down for about 15 minutes after receiving the vaccine can help prevent fainting and injuries caused by falls.

If you develop rashes, breathlessness, swollen mouth or eyes following vaccination, inform your doctor immediately. These could be signs of an allergic reaction.

Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Can I use this with other medicines?
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any of these medicines:
  • medicines for cancer
  • anti-inflammatory medicines
  • blood-thinning medicines
This list does not include all medicines that may interact with Human papillomavirus 9-valent recombinant vaccine.

Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements, and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
What special dietary instructions should I follow?
Avoid alcohol.
How should I store this medicine?
Store in the refrigerator, between 2-8°C.

Do not freeze Human papillomavirus 9-valent recombinant vaccine otherwise, it will no longer be effective and should not be used.

Protect from light.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
