Indications/Uses
Monotherapy for locally advanced or metastatic NSCLC w/ activating mutations of EGFR-TK in adults.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: In case of difficulty swallowing, do not crush tab. Dissolve in ½ glass of still (non-fizzy) water, then drink liqd straight away. Rinse glass w/ ½ glass of water & drink contents.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Caution in patients w/ history of any other lung problems; history of liver problems; intolerance to some sugars. Do not take antacids 2 hr before or 1 hr after taking Gefitinib Genepharm. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Avoid pregnancy during treatment. Not indicated in childn & adolescents <18 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Diarrhoea, vomiting, nausea; skin reactions (eg, acne-like rash); loss of appetite; weakness; red/sore mouth; increased ALT. Dry mouth; dry/red/itchy eyes, red/sore eyelids; nail problems; hair loss; fever; bleeding (eg, epistaxis, hematuria); proteinuria; increased bilirubin, AST, creatinine; cystitis.
Drug Interactions
Potential interaction w/ phenytoin, carbamazepine, rifampicin, itraconazole, barbiturates, herbal remedies containing St. John's wort, PPIs, H2-antagonists, antacids, warfarin.
