Reduces pain & inflammation of joints & muscles in patients ≥16 yr w/ OA, RA, ankylosing spondylitis & gout. Short-term treatment of moderate pain after dental surgery in patients ≥16 yr.
OA 30 mg once daily, increase to max 60 mg once daily if needed. RA 60 mg once daily, can be increased to max 90 mg once daily if needed. Ankylosing spondylitis 60 mg once daily, can be increased to max 90 mg once daily. Gout 120 mg once daily. Should only be used for acute painful period, limited to a max of 8 days treatment. Post-op dental surgery pain 90 mg once daily, limited to a max of 3 days treatment. Patient w/ mild liver disease Max 60 mg daily; moderate liver disease Max 30 mg daily.

Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to etoricoxib or to NSAIDs inclusing acetylsalicylic acid & COX-2 inhibitors. Patients w/ severe heart failure. Treatment of peri-operative pain in the CABG setting. Current stomach ulcer or bleeding in the stomach or intestines; serious liver or kidney disease; inflammatory bowel disease eg, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis or colitis; uncontrolled HTN; diagnosed heart problems; MI, bypass surgery, peripheral arterial disease; any kind of stroke. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <16 yr.
Patients w/ history of stomach bleeding or ulcers; dehydration; swelling due to fluid retention; history of heart failure, or any other form of heart disease; history of high BP; any history of liver or kidney disease; patients being treated for an infection; diabetes, high cholesterol, smoking. Increased risk of serious CV thrombotic events, MI, & stroke; serious GI adverse events including bleeding, ulceration, perforation of the stomach or intestines. Risk of renal papillary necrosis & other renal injury. Not recommended in patients w/ advanced renal disease. May impair ability to drive & use machines. Women trying to become pregnant. Elderly >65 yr.
Stomach pain. Dry socket; oedema; dizziness, headache; palpitations, arrhythmia; increased BP; wheezing or shortness of breath; constipation, flatulence, gastritis, heartburn, diarrhoea, dyspepsia/stomach discomfort, nausea, vomiting, inflammation of the oesophagus, mouth ulcers; changes in liver blood tests; bruising; weakness & fatigue, flu-like illness.
Drug Interactions
Potential interaction w/ anticoagulants eg, warfarin; rifampicin; methotrexate; ciclosporin or tacrolimus; lithium; ACE inhibitors, angiotensin receptor blockers; diuretics; digoxin; minoxidil; salbutamol tab or oral soln; OCs; hormone replacement therapy; acetylsalicylic acid. Do not take high dose acetylsalicylic acid or other NSAIDs while taking Etoxib.
