Dorzolamide HCl 2% w/v, timolol maleate 0.5% w/v
Indications/Uses
Treatment of glaucoma when β-blocker eye drop alone is inadequate.
Dosage/Direction for Use
1 drop in the affected eye(s) in the morning & evening. Instill at least 10 min apart if using w/ another eye drop.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Patients w/ history of or current resp problems eg, asthma or severe chronic obstructive bronchitis; w/ heart failure or heart rhythm disorders (slow or irregular heartbeats); w/ severe kidney disease or problems, or a prior history of kidney stones; w/ hyperchloremic acidosis.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ history of or current eye problems (eg, eye irritation/infection/injury); CHD, heart failure, low BP; heart rate disturbances; breathing problems, asthma or COPD; poor blood circulation disease (eg, Raynaud's disease or Raynaud's syndrome); diabetes; overactive thyroid gland. Timolol may mask signs & symptoms of low blood sugar &/or overactivity of the thyroid gland. May change the effects of some medicines used during anaesth in surgery. Patients w/ muscle weakness or myasthenia gravis. Instillation may affect the entire body. Contains benzalkonium Cl. Remove soft contact lenses before use & wait at least 15 min before reinsertion. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Patients w/ hepatic impairment. Pregnancy. Do not use if breast-feeding. Infants & childn.
Adverse Reactions
Burning & stinging of the eyes, taste perversion. Redness/swelling/irritation in & around the eye(s), watering or itching of the eye(s), corneal erosion, feeling of having something in the eye, decreased corneal sensitivity, eye pain, dry eyes, blurred vision, headache, sinusitis, weakness/tiredness, fatigue.
Drug Interactions
Potential interaction w/ BP-lowering medicines or medicines treating heart disease or disturbed/irregular heartbeat (eg, Ca channel blockers, β-blockers or digoxin); other β-blocker-containing eye drop; other carbonic anhydrase inhibitor eg, acetazolamide; MAOIs; parasympathomimetic medicine; narcotics eg, morphine; antidiabetic medicine; fluoxetine & paroxetine; sulfa medicine; quinidine.
