Bleomycin is used alone or together with other medicines or radiation therapy to treat certain cancers of the skin, lymph nodes and testicles.
This medicine may be used to treat other conditions as decided by your doctor.
Bleomycin injection is to be given intravenously (into the vein) or intramuscularly (into the muscle, usually into the muscles of the upper arm, thigh or buttocks).
Your doctor or nurse will administer the injection for you.
The dose of this medicine will be decided by your doctor. Your doctor will advise you on the treatment timeframe depending on the type of your condition and your response to the medication.
Ensure that you keep all appointments with your doctor so that you do not miss any doses. Your doctor also needs to regularly monitor your response to Bleomycin.
If you miss an appointment or miss an injection, alert your doctor or nurse. A replacement appointment or injection should be given as soon as possible.
Alert your doctor if you have the following conditions:
- ataxia telangiectasia (rare inherited disease causing difficulties in movement coordination and risk of infections)

Inform your doctor if you have the following conditions:
- lung cancer
- previous or current radiation therapy

Let your doctor know if you are pregnant.
It is important that you do not get pregnant while being treated with Bleomycin. Both men and women must use proven birth control methods during Bleomycin therapy and for 6 months after stopping the treatment. You may wish to discuss other reliable methods of birth control with your doctor.
Be sure to check with your doctor or pharmacist before giving Bleomycin to the elderly. Elderly people may be more sensitive to the side effects.
Inform your doctor if you have been recently vaccinated. Do not receive any vaccinations without first asking your doctor.
