Why do I need this medicine?
Baloxavir marboxil is used to treat flu, an infection caused by a virus called influenza virus.

This medicine is also used to prevent you from getting the flu if you have come into close contact with someone who has flu symptoms.
How do I take this medicine?
Take Baloxavir marboxil exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

You may take this medicine with or without food.

Baloxavir marboxil is available as a tablet and granules for oral suspension.

If you are taking the granules for oral suspension, gently swirl the bottle before taking the medicine to ensure the liquid is evenly mixed. Do not shake. Use the measuring spoon or cup provided to measure your dose.
When should I not use this medicine?
Do not take Baloxavir marboxil if you ever had an allergic reaction (e.g. rashes, breathlessness, swollen eyes) to this medicine or any of its ingredients.
What should I take note of while taking this medicine?
Inform your doctor if you have a severely weak immune system.

Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Baloxavir marboxil is not a substitute for your yearly flu vaccination. Your doctor will inform you if you need to be vaccinated against the flu.

This medicine does not prevent you from spreading your flu to others. Try to limit contact with others while you are sick, cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze, and wash your hands frequently with soap and water to avoid spreading the flu to others.
What side effects could I experience?
Baloxavir marboxil may cause any of the following side effects: headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, cough, sore throat, and stuffy nose.

If you develop rashes, breathlessness, swollen mouth or eyes, stop taking this medicine and inform your doctor immediately. These could be signs of an allergic reaction.

Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Can I take this with other medicines?
Avoid vaccination of live flu vaccine within 2 weeks before or 48 hours after taking this medicine. Alert your doctor if you have been recently vaccinated or if you are planning to get vaccinated.

Do not take Baloxavir marboxil with medicines containing calcium, iron, magnesium, selenium, aluminium, and zinc such as medicines for constipation, antacids (medicines that neutralise stomach acids), or oral supplements. These medicines may reduce the effectiveness of Baloxavir marboxil when taken at the same time.

Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements, and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
What special dietary instructions should I follow?
Avoid alcohol.

Do not take Baloxavir marboxil with dairy products such as milk, cheese, yoghurt, or ice cream. Dairy products may reduce the effectiveness of this medicine when taken at the same time.
How should I store this medicine?
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.

Keep the tablets in their original package to protect from moisture.

The oral suspension can be stored at room temperature not exceeding 25°C after you have mixed the powder with water. Throw away unused portions after 10 hours or if stored above 25°C.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
