Hepatitis A (GBM strain) vaccine (inactivated, adsorbed)
Indications/Uses
Avaxim 80 Prevention of infection caused by HAV in childn 12 mth to 15 yr of age. Avaxim 160 Prevention of infection caused by HAV in adults & adolescents ≥16 yr.
IMAvaxim 80 0.5 mL primary vaccination dose, followed by 0.5 mL booster dose 6 mth to 10 yr after 1st dose. Can be used as booster in subjects who have received 1st vaccination w/ another inactivated hepatitis A vaccine. Avaxim 160 0.5 mL primary dose, followed by booster dose 6-12 mth after 1st dose, & can be administered up to 36 mth after 1st dose. Can also be administered as booster dose of hepatitis A vaccine after receiving combined typhoid fever & hepatitis A vaccine 6-36 mth earlier.
Do not inj intravascularly, intradermally, & into the buttocks. Caution in patients on immunosuppressants (eg, corticosteroids, cytotoxic drugs, RT) or in a state of immune deficiency (eg, HIV infection); patients w/ liver disease; patients w/ haemophilia or those easily subjected to bruises or bleeding. Will not protect against hepatitis B, C or E viruses. May not work properly in patients w/ HAV infection at the time of vaccination. Contains phenylalanine, which may be harmful for patients w/ phenylketonuria. Do not use during pregnancy except in case of major contamination risk.
