Indications/Uses
Treatment of schizophrenia in adults & adolescents ≥15 yr. Treatment of manic episodes in bipolar I disorder in adults & adolescents ≥13 yr. Prevention of manic episodes in adults who have responded to aripiprazole.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 15 mg once daily. Max: 30 mg once daily. Childn & adolescent 10 mg once daily. Max: 30 mg once daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ high blood sugar or family history of DM; seizure; involuntary, irregular muscle movements, especially in the face; CV diseases, family history of CV disease, stroke or 'mini' stroke, abnormal BP; blood clots or family history of blood clots; past experience of excessive gambling; intolerance to some sugars. Elderly patients suffering from dementia. Risk of wt gain, development of unusual movements, somnolence, difficulty in swallowing, allergic symptoms; muscle stiffness or inflexibility w/ high fever, sweating, altered mental status, or very rapid or irregular heart beat. Reports of suicidal thoughts & behaviours. Risk of pathological gambling & other compulsive behaviours. Do not drive or use any tools or machines until effect of Aripiprazole Actavis is known. Should be used during pregnancy only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to the fetus. Do not breast-feed during therapy. Not for use in childn & adolescent <13 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Uncontrollable twitching or jerking movements, headache, tiredness, nausea, vomiting, uncomfortable feeling in the stomach, constipation, increased production of saliva, light-headedness, trouble sleeping, restlessness, feeling anxious, sleepiness, shaking, blurred vision.
Drug Interactions
Increased effect of BP-lowering medicines. Dose adjustment may be necessary w/ antiarrhythmics, antidepressants or herbal remedy for depression & anxiety, antifungal agents, certain HIV medicines, anticonvulsants. Increased risk of side effects w/ triptans, tramadol, tryptophan, SSRIs (eg, paroxetine & fluoxetine), tricyclics (eg, clomipramine, amitriptyline), pethidine, St. John's wort, venlafaxine. Avoid concomitant alcohol intake.
