Per tab Co-trimoxazole: Trimethoprim 80 mg, sulfamethoxazole 400 mg. Per 5 mL syr Co-trimoxazole: Trimethoprim 40 mg, sulfamethoxazole 200 mg
Indications/Uses
Infections from gm +ve, gm -ve & other susceptible microorganism eg, resp tract, GIT, GUT & skin infections, septicemia.
Dosage/Direction for Use
TabAdult 2 tab bid. Long-term treatment: 1 tab bid. SyrChildn >2 mth Usual dose: TMP 40 mg/kg/day to 1 mL (TMP 8 mg, SMX 40 mg)/kg/day divided to bid. 10 kg 5 mL bid, 20 kg 10 mL bid, 30 kg 15 mL bid, 40 kg 20 mL bid.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Severely impaired hepatic or renal function; hypersensitivity to sulfonamides, blood dyscrasias. Pregnancy & lactation. Infant <2 mth. Porphyria.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ folic acid deficiency, poor nutritional states or G6PD deficiency. Elderly & patients w/ reduced kidney function.
