Meropenem trihydrate
Indications/Uses
Lower resp tract infections, nosocomial pneumonias, UTI, gynecological & skin infections; peritonitis, meningitis, septicemia, presumed infections in neutropenic patients.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult
500 mg-1 g IV 8 hrly.
Meningitis
2 g 8 hrly.
Childn >3 mth-12 yr
10-20 mg/kg 8 hrly.
Meningitis
40 mg/kg 8 hrly.
Infection in neutropenic patients
20 mg/kg 8 hrly.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to carbapenem, penicillins & other β-lactams.
Special Precautions
Monitor organ system function including hepatic, renal & hematopoietic; seizures, pseudomembraneous colitis.
Adverse Reactions
Inflammation, thrombophlebitis & pain at inj site. Headache, paresthesia, convulsion, rash, pruritus, urticaria, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, leucopenia, neutropenia.
