Per g Lidocaine 25 mg, prilocaine 25 mg
Indications/Uses
Topical anesth of skin, genital mucosa & leg ulcers.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Skin Adult Apply a thick layer approx 1.5-2 g/10 cm2 covered w/ occlusive dressing 1-2 hr before start of surgery. Childn Approx 1 g/10 cm2 covered w/ occlusive dressing. Childn 6-12 yr Up to 20 g & 200 cm2, 1-5 yr Up to 10 g & 100 cm2. Infant 3-11 mth Up to 2 g & 20 cm2. Neonates 0-2 mth Up to 1 g & 10 cm2. Genital mucosa Adult Approx 5-10 g for 5-10 min. No occlusive dressing is required. Commence procedure immediately thereafter. Leg ulcer Apply a thick layer approx 1-2 g/10 cm2 up to a total of 10 g. Cover w/ an occlusive dressing for at least 30 min. Up to 60 min may improve the anesth further. Start cleansing w/o delay after cream removal.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to amide-type local anesth.
Special Precautions
Do not apply to open wounds, genital mucosa of childn, impaired tympanic membrane. Atopic dermatitis. Avoid contact w/ eyes. Monitor methaemoglobin levels on childn, infants 0-12 mth & neonates. Not to be used in intracutaneous inj of a live vaccine eg, BCG.
Adverse Reactions
Local reactions eg, paleness, erythema (redness) & oedema. Mild burning or itching sensation at application site.
Drug Interactions
Increased risk in the methaemoglobin level w/ sulphonamides.
