Infection of intra-abdominal, intrapelvic, gynaecological, lower resp tract, bone & joint, skin & soft tissue, septicemia, UTI.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 1-2 g 8 hrly. Can increase to 3 g 6 hrly. Patient w/ renal insufficiency Reduce dose. Infant >4 wk 20-40 mg/kg 6-8 hrly, 1-4 wk 20-40 mg/kg 8 hrly. Neonate ≤1 wk 20-40 mg/kg 12 hrly. Max dose: 12 g/day.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephamycin, cephalosporins & penicillin.
Special Precautions
Possible cross-sensitivity w/ other β-lactam antibiotics. Anaphylaxis. History of GI disease, particularly colitis. Renal impairment. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Thrombophlebitis, headache, dizziness, induration & tenderness following inj; rash, urticaria, pruritus, hypotension, pseudomembranous colitis, vomiting, leukopenia, eosinophilia, jaundice. Transient elevations in liver enzyme function tests.
