Ceftazidime pentahydrate
Indications/Uses
Bacterial septicemia, meningitis, infection of resp tract, skin & soft tissue, bone & joint infection, UTI. Infections associated w/ haemodialysis & peritoneal dialysis & continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 1-6 g/day in 2 or 3 divided doses IM or IV. Childn >1 mth to 12 yr 25-50 mg/kg/day 8 hrly IV. Severe infections Increase dose up to 6 g daily IV. Infant <1 mth 50 mg/kg/day in 2 or 3 divided doses.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins & penicillins.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity to penicillins. Renal impairment.
Adverse Reactions
Rash, urticarial, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, phlebitis or thrombophlebitis at IV inj site, hypersensitivity reactions.
Drug Interactions
Nephrotoxic drugs.
