Cef-3: Side Effects & Dosing

Indications/Uses

Sepsis, meningitis, perioperative prophylaxis, infection of bones, joints, soft tissues, skin, abdominal, resp tract infections, UTI, GUT including gonorrhea. Leptospirosis.

Dosage/Direction for Use

Adult & childn >12 yr 1-2 g daily. Severe infection 4 g daily. Infant >15 days & childn <12 yr 20-80 mg/kg/day. Infant <14 days 20-50 mg/kg/day.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.

Special Precautions

Previous hypersensitivity to penicillins; pregnancy.

Adverse Reactions

GI upset, hematological changes, skin reaction; anaphylactoid reaction.
