Indications/Uses
In adults, adolescents & childn from 2-11 yr as lubricant for catheters, endoscopes or other medical instruments; relieves pain during procedures & prevent most infections.
Elderly, childn 2-11 yr, debilitated & acutely ill patient, hepatic impairment or severe renal dysfunction Max: 2.9 mg/kg. Use in urethra before inserting catheter, endoscope or other medical instruments Adult men 12.5 g. Anaesth in general & tracheal intubation Adult & adolescent ≥12 yr Evenly distribute approx 5 mL over the bottom 3rd of tube. Max: 16 g.
Hypersensitivity to lidocaine, chlorhexidine or other amide type local anaesth. Bulbocavernosus reflux; severely weak heart, extremely slow heartbeat, heart conduction disturbances (AV block), shock due to heart failure or reduced blood vol. Childn <2 yr.
Not to be used in the eyes. Swallowing difficulties; numbness of tongue or mouth area leading to bite injury. Frequent use at high doses. Use in wounds, injury to mucous membranes or ulcer/inflammation in or around proposed application site. Debilitated or acutely ill patients. Patients w/ heart or resp tract dysfunction; prone to seizures; suffering from myasthenia gravis or porphyria. Concomitant use w/ medications for heart rhythm disorders eg, class III antiarrhythmics (amiodarone). Severe hepatic or renal impairment. Women of childbearing potential. Not recommended during pregnancy & breast-feeding. Elderly.
Drop in BP, dizziness, nausea, shortness of breath, anaphylactic shock; nervousness, blurred vision or trembling, drowsiness, unconsciousness, resp & cardiac arrest, slow heart rate; hoarseness.
Drug Interactions
Enhanced effect w/ other medicines containing lidocaine or amide type local anaesth; medication for heart rhythm disorders (antiarrhythmics eg, mexiletine, tocainide) & high BP (β-blockers eg, propranolol, or Ca channel blockers eg, diltiazem, verapamil); class III antiarrhythmics. Increased risk of side effects w/ cimetidine.
