Indications/Uses
Schizophrenia in patients who are therapy-resistant or intolerant to other antipsychotic agents.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Initially 12.5 mg once or bd on the 1st day followed by 1 or 2 tab of 25 mg on the 2nd day. If well tolerated, may increase dose in increments of 25-50 mg/day up to 300 mg/day after 2-3 wk. If necessary, may further increase dose in increments of 50-100 mg/wk twice or preferably once a wk. Max: 900 mg/day. Elderly Initially 12.5 mg on the 1st day, may increase to not >25 mg/day. Resumption of therapy after interval of >2 days 12.5 mg once or bd on the 1st day.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Bone marrow disorders or history of medication-induced granulocytopenia or agranulocytosis. Convulsions or uncontrolled epilepsy. Alcohol or toxic psychosis, medicine intoxications, comatose conditions. Circulatory collapse &/or CNS depression. Severe liver, renal or cardiac disorders. Paralytic ileus, uretroprostatic disorders, narrow-angle glaucoma.
