Indications and Dosage
Topical/Cutaneous
Scabies
Adult: As 25% emulsion: Apply to the entire skin surface (excluding the face and neck), allow to dry, and re-apply after 24 hours without bathing. Wash off after 24 hours. A 2nd application within 5 days may be necessary. Alternatively, 3 applications 12 hourly may be made, followed by bathing 12 hours after the last application. As 25% lotion: Apply a sufficient amount with a brush to cover the whole body (excluding the face and head). Allow to dry, then wash off after 24 hours with warm water and soap. May repeat treatment after 5 days, if necessary. Dosage recommendations and available products may vary between countries (refer to specific product guidelines).
Child: As 25% lotion: 2-12 years Dilute with equal parts of water before application. Apply a sufficient amount with a brush to cover the whole body (excluding the face and head). Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Patient with history of allergic reactions to other topical products. Children. Pregnancy and lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Significant: Hypersensitivity reaction.
Eye disorders: Eye irritation.
General disorders and administration site conditions: Application site irritation.
Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders: Skin and mucous membrane irritation, contact dermatitis, erythematous rash.
Patient Counseling Information
Avoid contact with face, eyes, lips, and mucous membranes. Do not use on broken, irritated, inflamed, or secondarily infected skin.
Action
Description:
Mechanism of Action: Benzyl benzoate is an acaricide agent. Its exact mechanism of action is unclear; however, it is known to be toxic to the CNS of parasites. Additionally, benzyl benzoate has an ovicidal activity.
