IM/SCAdult, pregnant woman, childn 6 mth-17 yr 1 dose of 0.5 mL to be given. Childn <9 yr not previously vaccinated against flu Administer 2nd dose of 0.5 mL after an interval of at least 4 wk.
Hypersensitivity to flu vaccine, eggs (ovalbumin, chicken proteins), neomycin, formaldehyde, or octoxinol-9. Postpone vaccination if patient has illness w/ high or moderate temp or acute illness.
Poor immune response (immunodeficiency or taking medicines affecting the immune system); bleeding problem or bruising easily. Fainting may occur following or even before inj. False +ve blood test results have been observed following vaccination. Not all infants <6 mth born to pregnant women vaccinated during pregnancy may be protected. Not recommended for childn <6 mth.
Headache, myalgia, malaise, pain at the inj site; fever, shivering, reactions at the inj site (erythema, swelling, induration). Other side effects reported: Childn 3-17 yr: Ecchymosis. Childn 6-35 mth: Vomiting, irritability, appetite lost, ecchymosis.
Drug Interactions
May decrease immunological response w/ immunosuppressant treatment eg, corticosteroids, cytotoxic drugs or radiotherapy.
