Indications/Uses

Management of HTN & angina pectoris.

Dosage/Direction for Use

Initially 5 mg once daily. Max: 10 mg once daily. Small, fragile or elderly individual or patient w/ hepatic insufficiency Initially 2.5 mg once daily. Chronic stable or vasospastic angina 5-10 mg.

Overdosage

Administration

May be taken with or without food.

Contraindications

Known sensitivity to amlodipine. Patients suffering from cardiogenic shock, unstable angina, significant aortic stenosis & obesity.

Special Precautions

Discontinue use in patients who experience ischaemic pain following administration. Not to be used in cardiogenic shock, in patients who have recently suffered MI, or in acute unstable angina. Not to be used to treat anginal attack in chronic stable angina. May increase risk of developing heart failure in patients w/ severe aortic stenosis. Patients w/ hypotension, whose cardiac reserve is poor, & w/ heart failure. Hepatic impairment. Avoid use during pregnancy. Not recommended during lactation.

Adverse Reactions

Abdominal pain, nausea, palpitations, flushing, oedema, headache, dizziness, sleep, GI, taste, urinary & visual disturbances, fatigue, dry mouth, hypotension, syncope, chest pain, dyspnea, mood changes, tremor, anesth, impotence, gynecomastia, wt change, myalgia, pruritus, rashes (including erythema multiforme), alopecia, purpura, pancreatitis, hepatitis, jaundice, cholestasis, gingival hyperplasia, MI, arrhythmia, vasculitis, hyperglycaemia, thrombocytopenia, angioedema & urticaria.

Drug Interactions

May enhance antihypertensive effects of other antihypertensives eg, β-blockers. May modify insulin & glucose response to antidiabetic treatment.
