Contents
Per mL Benzydamine HCl 1.5 mg, chlorhexidine digluconate 1.2 mg
Indications/Uses
Relief of painful inflammatory conditions of throat including traumatic conditions eg, pharyngitis following tonsillectomy or use of nasogastric tube; inflammatory conditions eg, tonsillitis, sore throat, pharyngitis, aphthous ulcers & oral ulceration due to RT; after dental operations. Local antiseptic.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administer directly onto the sore or inflamed area. Repeat every 1½-3 hr as necessary. Adult & childn ≥12 yr 2-4 sprays. Childn 6-12 yr 2 sprays.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Pregnancy or lactation.
Special Precautions
For symptomatic & short-term use only. Uninterrupted treatment should not exceed 7 days. Discontinue use if patient develops shortness of breath, skin rash, face &/or tongue swelling; hypersensitivity & allergic reactions; skin reactions due to irritation; mouth rash; throat irritation & cough; growing of salivary gland. Not to be swallowed & should be expectorated after each use. Advise patient not to use w/o consulting a doctor if sore throat is severe or has lasted for >2 days or is accompanied by high fever, headache, nausea or vomiting. Antibiotic may be required if sore throat occurred w/ bacterial inflammation or accompanied by an inflammation. Avoid contact w/ eyes & ears. Contains FD&C yellow #5 (tartrazine) which may cause allergic reactions (including bronchial asthma) in certain susceptible individuals. Contains alcohol in small amounts (<100
mg/dose). May lead to reversible color change in the mouth, on the tongue & teeth due to chlorhexidine. Renal or liver disorders. Not to be administered in childn <6 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Anaphylaxis (rare, life-threatening allergic reaction) & hypersensitivity; dry mouth, dysgeusia, tooth discoloration; erythema. Benzydamine: Angioedema; drowsiness; dizziness, headache; bronchospasm, cough, laryngospasm; nausea, oral mucosal numbness or stinging sensation, retching, vomiting; photosensitivity, rash, pruritus, urticaria; thirst. Chlorhexidine: Ageusia, glossodynia, hypoesthesia, paresthesia; coated tongue, oral mucosal desquamation/swelling, tongue discoloration, gingivitis, glossitis, mucocele, sialadenosis, mouth irritation, parotid gland swelling; generalized allergic reactions.
Drug Interactions
Chlorhexidine: Incompatible w/ other anionic compd.
