Live attenuated BCG vaccine
Indications/Uses
Protection against early exposure or severe forms of childhood TB & tubercular meningitis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Intradermal Adult & childn >1 yr 0.1 mL. Childn <1 yr 0.05 mL.
Contraindications
Hypogammaglobulinemia; congenital immunodeficiency; sarcoidosis; leukemia; generalised malignancy; HIV infections (symptomatic or non-symptomatic) in adults & childn or any other disorder in which immune response is altered; those on immunosuppressive therapy, corticosteroids & RT.
Special Precautions
Childn should not be revaccinated if keloid & lupoid reactions at the inj site occur. Administer vaccine in healthy areas of the skin in chronic eczema or other dermatological disease. In case of systemic or persistent local infection occurs, apply necessary treatment. No indication to vaccinate women during pregnancy. Ensure HIV seronegative status of childn born to HIV +ve mothers before BCG vaccination.
