Indications/Uses

Anxiolytic. Management of pruritus & urticaria. Adjunct to pre- & post-op medication; opioid analgesia in the management of cancer pain.

Dosage/Direction for Use

IM Psychiatric & emotional emergencies including acute alcoholism Adult 50-100 mg immediately & every 4-6 hr, as needed. Nausea & vomiting excluding nausea & vomiting of pregnancy Adult 25-200 mg. Childn 0.5 mg/lb. Pre- & post-op adjunctive medication Adult 25-200 mg. Childn 0.5 mg/lb. Pre- & post-partum adjunctive therapy 25-100 mg.

Special Precautions

Hypersensitivity including bronchospasm, angioedema & anaphylaxis; rashes & cross-sensitivity. Photosensitivity. Possible human fetal abnormalities. Discontinue use several days prior skin testing.

Adverse Reactions

CNS depression, slight drowsiness to deep sleep, including lassitude, dizziness & incoordination; headache, psychomotor impairment; antimuscarinic effects eg, dry mouth, thickened resp tract secretions, blurred vision, urinary difficulty or retention, constipation & increased gastric reflux.
