Special Precautions

Increased t_½ & decreased clearance in patients w/ liver disease, CHF, chronic obstructive lung disease or concomitant infections. Hyperthyroidism; hypoxemia; peptic ulcer; renal or hepatic disease; CV disorders including cardiac arrhythmias, angina pectoris, acute myocardial injury, HTN or CHF. Pregnancy & lactation. Children. Elderly.

Adverse Reactions

Nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, headache, irritability, insomnia, tachycardia, extrasystole, tachypnea & occasionally hyperglycemia & albuminuria.

Drug Interactions

Do not concomitantly administer w/ other methylxanthines including beverages & foods containing caffeine. Increased t_½ & decreased clearance w/ cimetidine, allopurinol, propranolol, erythromycin, troleandomycin, lincomycin, ciprofloxacin & anti-flu vaccine. Decreased t_½ & increased clearance by phenytoin, anticonvulsants & smoking. Synergistic toxicity w/ ephedrine & other sympathomimetics. May potentiate hypokalemia caused by hypoxia or associated w/ β₂-adrenoceptor stimulants (β₂-agonist), corticosteroids & diuretics.
