Alfadil XL

Clinical symptoms in benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) & reduced urinary flow associated w/ BPH. May be used in BPH patients who are either hypertensive or normotensive.

Optimal effect may take up to 4 wk. If necessary, may increase dose following this period to 8 mg once daily according to patient response. Max: 8 mg once daily.

May be taken with or without food: Swallow whole, do not chew/divide/crush tab.

Hypersensitivity to quinazolines or doxazosin.

Postural hypotension w/ commencement of therapy. Concomitant use w/ PDE-5 may lead to symptomatic hypotension. Caution in patients w/ evidence of impaired hepatic function; & pre-existing severe GI narrowing. Intraoperative floppy iris syndrome during cataract surgery in some patients on or previously treated w/ α₁ blockers. Report of prolonged erections & priapism. May impair ability to engage in activities eg, operating machinery or motor vehicle, especially when initiating therapy.

Vertigo; asthenia, peripheral edema; abdominal pain, dyspepsia, nausea; flu-like symptoms, resp tract infection, UTI; back pain, myalgia; dizziness, headache, somnolence; bronchitis, dyspnea, rhinitis; hypotension, postural hypotension. Leukopenia, thrombocytopenia; tinnitus; blurred vision, intraoperative floppy iris syndrome; GI obstruction, constipation, diarrhea, dyspepsia, flatulence, dry mouth, vomiting; fatigue, malaise, pain; cholestasis, hepatitis, jaundice; allergic reaction; abnormal LFT, increased wt; anorexia; arthralgia, muscle cramps/weakness; postural dizziness, hypoesthesia, paresthesia, syncope, tremor; agitation, anxiety, depression, insomnia, nervousness; dysuria, hematuria, micturition disorder/frequency, nocturia, polyuria, urinary incontinence; gynecomastia, impotence, priapism, retrograde ejaculation; aggravated bronchospasm, coughing dyspnea, epistaxis; alopecia, pruritus, purpura, skin rash, urticaria; hot flushes, hypotension.

Concomitant administration w/ PDE-5 inhibitors; strong CYP3A4 inhibitors eg, clarithromycin, indinavir, itraconazole, ketoconazole, nefazodone, nelfinavir, ritonavir, saquinavir, telithromycin or voriconazole.
