Indications/Uses

Acute treatment of signs & symptoms of OA & RA. Management of acute pain associated w/ inflammation.

Dosage/Direction for Use

OA 30 mg once daily. May be increased to 60 mg once daily. RA 90 mg once daily. Gouty arthritis 120 mg once daily. Max: 8 days treatment.

Overdosage

Administration

May be taken with or without food.

Contraindications

Patients w/ history of CVA, MI, CABG, uncontrolled HTN, CHF (NYHA II-IV). Inflammatory bowel disease. Renal impairment CrCl <30 mL/min.

Special Precautions

Discontinue use in case of appearance of skin rash & signs of hypersensitivity. Do not give to patients allergic to NSAIDs & those w/ asthma. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration of treatment to avoid CV risk. Patients w/ ischemic heart disease & w/ risk factors for heart disease, HTN, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, smoking & w/ peripheral arterial disease. Potential GI (gastric & liver) & renal toxicities. May affect ability to drive & operate machines. Discontinue use during pregnancy. Women must not breastfeed while on treatment.

Adverse Reactions

GI discomfort, nausea, diarrhea, peptic ulceration, severe GI bleeding; headache, vertigo, dizziness, nervousness, tinnitus, depression, drowsiness, insomnia; hypersensitivity reactions; visual disturbance; anemia, thrombocytopenia, neutropenia, eosinophilia, agranulocytosis; interstitial nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, renal failure; hematuria; fluid retention.

Drug Interactions

Decreased plasma conc w/ rifampicin (potent CYP3A4 inducer). Increased plasma conc w/ ethinylestradiol (sulfotransferase substrate); possible interaction w/ other substrates (eg, oral salbutamol & minoxidil).
