Miconazole
Indications/Uses
Curative & prophylactic treatment of candidiasis of the oropharyngeal cavity & GIT.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn ½ tsp qds. Infant ¼ tsp qds. Do not swallow gel immediately, but keep in mouth as long as possible. Continue treatment for at least 1 wk after symptoms have disappeared. Oral candidiasis Remove dental prostheses at night & brush w/ gel.
Contraindications
Liver dysfunction.
Special Precautions
Ensure gel does not obstruct the throat especially in infants & young childn. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
GI discomfort eg, nausea, vomiting; diarrhoea (long-term).
Drug Interactions
Avoid terfenadine, astemizole, mizolastine, cisapride, triazolam, midazolam, dofetilide, quinidine, pimozide, simvastatin, lovastatin. Concomitant use w/ oral anticoagulants, saquinavir, vinca alkaloids, busulfan, docetaxel, dihydropyridines, verapamil, cyclosporine, tacrolimus, sirolimus, oral hypoglycaemics, phenytoin, carbamazepine, buspirone, alfentanil, sildenafil, alprazolam, brotizolam, rifabutin, methylprednisolone, trimetrexate, ebastine, reboxetine.
