Sildenafil citrate
Indications/Uses
Treatment of erectile dysfunction.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Recommended starting dose: 50 mg once daily to be given approx 1 hr prior intercourse.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Concomitant w/ nitrates, amyl nitrite. Severe heart or liver problem. Recent stroke or heart attack. Low BP. Retinitis pigmentosa. Loss of vision due to non-arteritic anterior ischaemic optic neuropathy.
Special Precautions
Sickle cell anaemia, leukaemia, multiple myeloma, Peyronie's disease, cardiac disease, stomach ulcer, bleeding disorder. Discontinue in case of sudden decrease or loss of vision. Do not use w/ any other treatment for erectile dysfunction. Patients w/ renal or hepatic impairment. May affect ability to drive or operate machinery. Should not be given to childn <18 yr. Not indicated for women.
Adverse Reactions
Headache; facial flushing, indigestion, effects on vision (including colour tinge to vision, light sensitivity, blurred vision, reduced sharpness of vision), stuffy nose, dizziness.
Drug Interactions
Potential decrease in BP w/ nitrates, amyl nitrite; PIs. Orthostatic hypotension w/ α-blockers. Impaired ability of penile erection w/ alcohol.
