Terazosin HCl dihydrate
Indications/Uses
HTN. Benign prostatic hyperplasia.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Maintenance dose: 2-10 mg daily. Max dose: 20 mg daily. HTN 1 mg daily on days 1-7, then 2 mg daily on days 8-14. Benign prostatic hyperplasia 1 mg daily on days 1-7, then 2 mg daily on days 8-21, then 5 mg daily on days 22-28.
Administration
Swallow w/ water. Take 1st tab of new dose in the evening at bedtime. May take following tab in the morning.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to terazosin, alfuzosin, indoramin, prazosin, tamsulosin or doxazosin. Patients being treated for high BP or taking drugs to lower BP (ACE inhibitors, diuretics, α-blockers, β-blockers, Ca channel blockers). Patients who have fallen over or fainted while passing water. Patients w/ heart problems; liver problems; galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Regularly monitor patients during treatment. May cause dizziness, lightheadedness or drowsiness. Exercise caution when driving or operating machinery during treatment.
Adverse Reactions
Weakness, fast or uneven heartbeat, feeling sick, swelling, sleepiness, blocked nose, blurred vision; dizziness, lightheadedness or fainting when standing up quickly from lying or sitting position. Back pain, headache, wt gain, pain in extremities, decreased sex drive, depression, nervousness, pins-&-needles, vertigo, difficulty breathing, impotence.
