Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
Should be taken with food: Swallow whole, do not chew/crush.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to indapamide, sulfonamides; severe hepatic or renal failure, hepatic encephalopathy, hypokalemia. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Impaired liver function. Discontinue if photosensitivity occurs. Monitor water, electrolyte (plasma Na, K, Ca) imbalances & blood glucose levels. Gout attacks in hyperuricaemic patients. Hypovolaemia; preexisting renal insufficiency. Positive reaction in doping tests for athletes. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Childn & adolescent.
Adverse Reactions
Maculopapular rash. Uncommonly, vomiting, purpura.
Drug Interactions
Decreases lithium excretion. Increases risk of ventricular arrhythmias w/ class Ia & III, antiarrhythmics & antipsychotics. Increases antihypertensive effect w/ baclofen, imipramine-like antidepressants, neuroleptics. Reduces antihypertensive effect of indapamide w/ NSAIDs including COX-2 selective inhibitors & high-dose salicylic acid (≥3 g/day), costicosteroids, tetracosactide. Risk of sudden hypotension &/or acute renal failure w/ ACEIs. Increases risk of hypokalaemia w/ amphotericin B IV, gluco- & mineralocorticoids, tetracosactide, stimulant laxatives, digitalis prep, K-sparing diuretics. Increases risk of metformin-induced lactic acidosis. Increases risk of acute renal failure w/ iodinated contrast media. Increases plasma creatinine w/ ciclosporin, tacrolimus. Decreases urinary elimination of Ca w/ Ca salts.
