Diltiazem HCl
Dosage/Direction for Use
Angina pectoris, variant angina pectoris 30 mg tds, may increase to 60 mg. Essential HTN (mild to moderate) 30-60 mg tds.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Swallow whole, do not chew/crush.
Contraindications
SA block, 2nd- or 3rd-degree AV block, severe CHF. Pregnancy.
Special Precautions
Severe bradycardia (<50 beats/min); 1st degree AV block; CHF; severe hypotension; severe hepatic & renal dysfunction.
Adverse Reactions
Dizziness, headache; facial flushing; GI disturbances, constipation; bradycardia, AV block; increased SGOT & SGPT.
Drug Interactions
Enhances effects of antihypertensives; β-blockers, Rauwolfia causes bradycardia; increases blood conc of carbamazepine & digoxin; nitrates, dihydropyridine Ca antagonist, antiarrhythmic drug, apridin HCl, theophylline, cyclosporin, tacrolimus, phenytoin, triazolam, midazolam, cimetidine, HIV protease inhibitor, rifampicin, anesth, & muscle relaxant.
